Pick up point, taxi rank, meet & greet, short stay car park, Uber AVA & £7 drop-off fee — everything for arriving or leaving Heathrow Terminal 5.
Heathrow Terminal 5 has three different pick up points depending on who is collecting you:
Private vehicle collecting (a friend or family member) — uses the Short Stay Car Park on Level 1 (£4 for the first 30 minutes) and walks across to arrivals. The free "drop & rejoin" area is for drop-off only, not collection.
Heathrow Terminal 5 is the newest and largest terminal at Heathrow Airport, purpose-built as the home of British Airways. Whether you're arriving from a long-haul BA flight from New York or a short European hop with Iberia, knowing exactly how to arrange your Terminal 5 pickup can save you time, stress, and money.
This guide is part of our wider Heathrow Airport Taxi network. Unlike queuing at the busy taxi rank or dragging luggage to a distant car park for an Uber, we offer a seamless Meet & Greet service right inside the Arrivals Hall.
Getting to Terminal 5 from locations like Watford, Rickmansworth, St Albans, or central London typically involves the M4/M25. Our drivers are specialists at timing this journey perfectly, and with real-time flight tracking, your driver adjusts automatically to delays.
Heathrow Terminal 5 — Home of British Airways
When you book a Heathrow Terminal 5 pickup with Rapid Airport Transfers, here's exactly what happens:
1 Your flight lands — We're already tracking it in real-time.
2 Driver parks up — Approximately 20 minutes after landing, your driver enters the Short Stay Car Park and walks to the terminal.
3 Meet & Greet inside Arrivals — Your driver waits in the Arrivals Hall (ground floor of T5) holding a name board. Simply walk through customs, collect your bags, and look for your name.
4 Walk to the car — Your driver assists with luggage and walks you to the car, just minutes away in the Short Stay Car Park.
This is a huge advantage over the standard taxi rank, where you have to exit the building, queue in the elements, and take whichever cab is next in line. With our service, your driver is already inside waiting for you.
Heathrow does not allow ride-share apps (Uber, Bolt, Free Now, Ola) to collect from the standard arrivals forecourt at any terminal — that area is reserved for licensed black cabs only. Instead, ride-share drivers collect from the dedicated Authorised Vehicle Area (AVA), also known as the Private Hire Pickup Zone:
When you order an Uber from inside the T5 arrivals hall, the app shows your driver as "arriving" but the GPS pin is at the AVA — you need to walk to them. First-time Heathrow Uber users are often confused by this because no clear signage from arrivals directs you to the AVA. If you book a pre-arranged transfer with us instead, the driver walks to you (inside arrivals, name board), not the other way round.
If a friend or family member is collecting you at T5 in their own car, the T5 Short Stay Car Park is the only practical option. The "drop & rejoin" free area is exactly that — for drop-off only, with five-minute maximum stay enforced by ANPR cameras. Park your collector here and they walk into arrivals to meet you:
For collectors with mobility issues or significant luggage, a pre-booked taxi with Meet & Greet inside arrivals is genuinely the easiest option — no car parking, no walking with bags across the AVA car deck, no surge pricing risk.
The Heathrow Terminal 5 taxi rank is the official black-cab pickup point at T5, located on the ground floor of the arrivals area immediately outside the main building. From the arrivals concourse, follow the overhead signs marked “Taxis” — the rank is in the forecourt directly opposite the main exit doors, separated from the Uber/ride-share collection point at the AVA.
Practical realities of using the T5 black-cab taxi rank:
The Heathrow Terminal 5 taxi rank is fine for solo travellers without luggage on a clear off-peak afternoon, but it has three real disadvantages compared with a pre-booked transfer: unpredictable wait time, no fixed price, and no luggage help. After a long-haul BA flight at 6am, the difference between joining a 30-minute outdoor queue and walking straight to a driver who’s already inside the arrivals hall with your name on a board is significant — particularly with children, elderly travellers, or four-plus checked bags.
If you do plan to use the T5 taxi rank, time your queue: arrive at the rank within 5 minutes of stepping out of arrivals (any longer and the queue builds while you’re still inside). Otherwise, pre-book with us and the driver does the waiting, not you.
Our Meet & Greet service is included as standard on all Terminal 5 pickups at no extra charge. Here's what it includes:
One of the most common questions about Terminal 5 is the £7 drop-off charge. Here's what you need to know:
Heathrow Airport charges a £7 fee for all vehicles that use the terminal forecourt drop-off zones. This applies to taxis, private cars, Ubers, and any vehicle that drives up to the departure doors. The charge applies to all terminals (T2, T3, T4, and T5).
Good News: When you book a drop-off with Rapid Airport Transfers, the £7 charge is already included in your fixed quote. No hidden fees, no surprises at the barrier. The price you see is the price you pay.
How to avoid the £7 fee yourself: If someone is dropping you off privately, they can use the free Long Stay Car Park instead. From there, the Heathrow Pod (an automated shuttle) takes you directly to Terminal 5 in about 5 minutes. However, this means unloading luggage in a car park and navigating the pod system — not ideal with heavy bags or children.
