• Best for: quieter off-peak and late-evening arrivals. Worst for: long-haul morning waves (6–9am) when the car park and arrivals are busiest.

The Terminal 2 taxi rank is the official black-cab point, on the ground floor of arrivals on the forecourt directly outside the main exit doors. Follow the overhead "Taxis" signs — the rank is separate from the Uber/ride-share AVA. Practical realities:

• Typical wait: 5–15 minutes off-peak, 20–40 minutes during the morning Star Alliance long-haul waves.
• Fare type: metered, not fixed. A black cab from T2 to central London typically runs £75–£110 depending on destination and traffic.
• Luggage: standard cabs take 4 passengers; for 5–8 you must wait for a rare MPV cab or pre-book an 8-seater.
• No advance booking: the rank is first-come-first-served — you cannot reserve one for a specific arrival time.

Terminal 2 Drop-Off & the £7 Charge

Departing from T2, the set-down lane on the forecourt outside departures is for quick unloading only — no waiting, and a £7 charge per vehicle. To avoid the fee entirely, use the free Long Stay car park (Heathrow Central) and the free transfer bus into the Central Terminal Area.
